Our story

ATLAS Infrastructure was founded in 2017 as a partnership between the ATLAS partners and Global Infrastructure Partners (GIP), one of the world’s leading infrastructure managers with over US$170bn under management.

It has been a founding principle of the Firm that ATLAS Infrastructure should be established with the resources and support to provide comprehensive, highly detailed analytical coverage of its sector and world-class service to its clients. In keeping with this ambition, the firm was established with a large investment team supported by best-in-class service providers. The Firm has offices in Sydney and London.

Philosophy

Listed Infrastructure

We believe the characteristics of listed infrastructure companies are fundamentally distinct from those of the wider equity market due to the nature of their regulation, their interaction with macro factors and the long duration of both the assets and their cashflows. These characteristics are often not well understood or accurately priced by standard equity market metrics which creates opportunities to invest in high-quality assets with strong returns through all phases of the market cycle.

Asset Level Research

We believe that good investment decisions come from the ability to forecast long-term cash flows and the ability to estimate risk (macro and sector) at the asset and portfolio level.

Confidence in long-term forecasts comes from deep infrastructure sector knowledge and experience combined with original research. ATLAS places infrastructure sector knowledge at the core of our team construction and of our investment process.

Our analysis is founded on a long-term perspective – we look at cash flows over a 50 year timescale.

    We have an investment team of 18, one of the largest and most experienced teams in the sector. The 5 investment partners alone have over 100 years of experience in the infrastructure sector. The team’s history spans both listed and unlisted infrastructure investment, a diversity of expertise which facilitates a deep understanding of the infrastructure assets in our investment universe.

  • Integration of Climate Change

    Climate change and its implications for energy transition are embedded within our analysis of every asset. We acknowledge climate change as one of the most significant influences of investment outcomes within our sector and factor the cash flow impacts of the policy response to climate change in our assessment of every company.

  • Asset Level Focus on the Social Contract

    ATLAS recognises that infrastructure assets operate under an implicit social contract and that companies which fail to perform in line with that contract (through overcharging, or under delivering or through failing to control associated externalities) may be subject to penalties or reduced regulatory returns. ATLAS’ financial models make explicit assumptions about the level of profits that are earned by infrastructure assets and our forecasts assume that companies earn “fair” returns over time, provided that the company provides a service in line with customer and regulator expectations.

  • Tailored Solutions

    Portfolios can be constructed to meet specific exposure, return, benchmark and risk objectives for clients rather than assembled around a central strategy or knowledge pool. Portfolio objectives can be adjusted, and capacity can be specified with greater confidence.
