Our team

ATLAS Infrastructure is comprised of 27 staff, split between 18 investment staff and 9 staff dedicated to governance, compliance, execution, operations, distribution, and a Chairman.

The team is split between offices in London and Sydney. Well-resourced bases in both the northern and southern hemispheres promote easier access to management teams in every part of the world and so facilitate more active engagement with portfolio companies.

The ATLAS team has been assembled to include individuals with diverse but complementary skills across a range of investment and corporate disciplines as well as experience in both listed and unlisted infrastructure investment.

Breadth and Diversity of Experience

ATLAS has sought to build a team which brings together people with a range of backgrounds and experience. The investment team includes staff with specialist experience in a range of infrastructure subsectors, from both listed and unlisted infrastructure and also with experience in the debt capital markets.

We have designed all aspects of our business to support a sustainable performance model and culture. We have a team-based research and Investment Committee process that is not dependent on any one ‘stock picker’ and that ensures that we are constantly ‘training up’ the next generation.

Advisory Forums

ATLAS has established several bodies to provide independent advice and to bring additional breadth and depth to its own analytical capabilities.

Investment Governance Board

ATLAS has established an Investment Governance Board to provide independent scrutiny of its investment decisions, and to ensure consistency of ATLAS Infrastructure’s processes and investment decisions with the mandates given by its investors/clients.
The IGB reports to the ATLAS Board, and may make recommendations for action to the Board, if its reviews so warrant. Its members are:

  • John Bearman: John is a former CIO of the BP Pension Fund and holds a number of non-executive roles in the financial services sector;
  • Danyelle Guyatt: Danyelle is a former member of the Investment Committee of Catholic Super and is a global advisor to governments and investors on sustainable investment and climate change; and
  • Randall Mullen: Randall is a former Senior Portfolio Manager in the Infrastructure and Forestland Group at CalPERS.
  • Geoffrey Warren: Geoffrey is an Associate Professor at the Australian National University, who brings with him experience of economic strategy in both commercial and academic roles.

Macro & Climate Advisory Board

To assist in its assessment of the wider economic and political trends affecting the financial performance of the infrastructure sector, ATLAS has implemented a Macro & Climate Advisory Board. The role of the MCAB is to provide specialist advice to the investment team with respect to the critical macro-economic inputs in the Firm’s investment model, including the level of economic growth, inflation and interest rates across various regional economies as well as the rate of adoption of policies in response to climate change.

The members of the Macro and Climate Advisory Boards are selected to provide expertise in different regions and disciplines. They are:

  • Geoffrey Warren: Geoffrey is an Associate Professor at the Australian National University, who brings with him experience of economic strategy in both commercial and academic roles. His input at the MAB focusses on Australian and global trends.
  • Chris Watling: Chris is the CEO and Chief Market Strategist of Longview Economics, which he founded in 2003 following a career at Cazenove and KPMG. With a strong background in economic and scenario modelling, his geographic focus at MAB is on Europe and the US.
  • Ben Caldecott: Ben is the founding Director of the Oxford Sustainable Finance Programme at the University of Oxford and one of the leading authorities on the economics of climate change. His focus at MAB is on climate change policy and its economic implications.
  • Amandine Denis-Ryan: Amandine is the Head of System Change and Capability at ClimateWorks Australia; the leading climate change think tank in Australia.
  • Nate Aden: Nate leads the Science Based Targets initiative’s work with financial institutions. He has been with SBTi since 2015 and has contributed to the technical foundations of the initiative.

 

GIP Sector Forum

ATLAS is able to access the sector expertise of one of the most successful and experienced private market infrastructure investors, using its relationship with GIP to bolster its understanding of the value drivers within the sectors in which GIP specialises.

To give effect to this, ATLAS and GIP hold regular sector briefings attended by the specialist teams of both organisations. These briefings address the influences and trends affecting their sectors, including the overall industry climate, technological changes, regulatory trends and current and imminent political developments across the world. These discussions allow ATLAS to benefit both from GIP’s extensive investment experience and from their insight as asset operators and so help refine the Firm’s views to include the wider perspective of the private market investor.

All participating personnel are briefed on the compliance restrictions relating to the sharing of price-sensitive non-public information and the forums are chaperoned by compliance personnel from both GIP and ATLAS to ensure that non-public information is not shared during these discussions.
